Matthew focused primarily on Afro Cuban and hand drumming which he honed and later adapted into a unique style of intensely heavy yet melodic music. A multi-instrumentalist, Mathew is also an accomplished guitarist, bassist, and vocalist, which greatly attributes to his songwriting dexterity.
Mathew joined his first rock band, Racer Ten, at the age of 16 and released 2 independent albums and toured throughout North America before relocating to Toronto in 2000 where he started a new project called The Hollow, who released 3 albums and an EP before changing their name to Alpha Galates in late 2006. A few months later the band inked a deal with EMI Records after the president of EMI Music Canada came down to see the band perform at the Bovine Sex Club in Toronto.
Alpha Galates latest CD, A Stimulus for Reason, was released in February 2008 and has received rave reviews. The band filmed their first video for the single "Standing" with director Margaret Malandrucollo; the concept of the video was based on the John Carpenter film "They Live.” The band followed the release with a Canadian tour with Grimstunk and Threat Signal as well as performing at the prestigious Rock Am Ring Festival in Germany and Edgefest 2008 in Toronto. An iconoclast and skeptic, Matthew believes in freedom of expression and the supernatural.
