Music truly surrounded Shoshana from the moment she was born in her parents home in Olympia, Washington. When first placed in her father's arms he carried her out into the living room and danced around to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely". Dire Straits, Heart, Bonnie Raitt, Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross, Sarah Vaughan, Tom Petty, Robert Cray, and Aretha Franklin provided the soundtrack to Shoshana's formative years. It wasn't long before she developed musical tastes of her own and began singing and dancing around the house in high-heels and make-up to the music of Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Pat Benatar, George Michael, Michael Jackson and the soundtrack to ANNIE. Her mother enrolled her in dance classes at age three and by 6 years old, Shoshana expressed interest in participating in theater.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Shoshana first appeared on the New York City theater scene in the Off-Broadway revival of Godspell. She made her Broadway debut in the original cast of the Tony Award-winning production of Hairspray and went on to be the first replacement for the famed green-skinned witch Elphaba in the Broadway sensation Wicked. She later reprised her performance on the national tour.
Shoshana sang back-up for an endless list of superstars including Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Usher, Destiny's Child, N'Sync, Ray Charles, Britney Spears and Michael Jackson in Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration at Madison Square Garden. She gained national attention when she teamed up with Grammy Award nominee Brian McKnight to honor Aretha Franklin on the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. The duo performed Franklin's classic "Ain't No Way" on the nationally broadcast show, prompting a live audience to erupt into a standing ovation before the song was over. McKnight has said of Shoshana:“She has one of the greatest voices I've ever heard. Such versatility is rarely found. She has it all."
Most recently Shoshana replaced Spice Girl Mel B. as the headliner in the Las Vegas burlesque revue Peepshow, opposite Holly Madison. She made her Los Angeles concert debut at the Ford Amphitheater and her New York City concert debut to a sold-out crowd at Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center. She has appeared on The Girls Next Door, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Martha Stewart, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, MTV's Made, and Soul Train Christmas Starfest.
Her work as a singer/songwriter has been featured on MTV's The Hills and Mercy. Her debut single "Superhero" was used to promote NBC's Monday night line-up (Chuck, Heroes) and recently won an Independent Music Award for best R&B song. She has lent her voice to the film soundtracks for Hairspray, Enchanted, and Dance Flick. Superhero is available on itunes, amazon.com, cdbaby.com and shoshanabean.com.
Shoshana is a Virgo, and an only child. She loves ketchup on most everything, cheap jewelry, and enjoys sewing (but doesn't enjoy following patterns). She has a Puggle named Mimi, after Mariah Carey, and is most proud of receiving her license to drive a motorcycle.
