Born in Huntington, W, VA and raised in Kentucky Bobby Burns is a major player in the world of modern-metal, most notably as the bassist for Soulfly (headed by former Sepultura vocalist/rhythm guitar Max Cavalera). Bobby is also the guitarist / vocalist for Primer 55, the metal/hip-hop hybrid formed in 1997 by Bobby and vocalist J-Sin. Burns, a successful businessman as well as musician, is also the CEO of the newly formed Atlanta GA based indie label Family For Life Records which is the home Burns’s own Primer 55, his own solo releases and Bo Young a Detroit rapper who have released several EPs and limited edition CDs through the label.
Bobby Burns’ first taste of success happened when Primer 55 released their self-titled debut in 1999 on the independent label Propellant Transmissions. Months later the band soon signed with Island/DefJam Records and released their second studio album, Introduction to Mayhem, on January 25, 2000. The album featured appearances from Incubus dejay Chris Kilmore (from Incubus) and Hed PE frontman Jared Gomes. The band also toured alongside Soulfly that same year where Burns caught the attention of Max Cavalera who recruited Bobby in October 2003 for the recording of Soulfly's Prophecy album and is still a full time member of Soulfly having played bass on Dark Ages, Conquer, The Song remains insane DVD and the newest Soufly effort Omen (due out May 4th) In 2001 Burns went on to release Primer 55's 3rd album simply titled the New Release in which Bobby claims to be his own claim to fame being that he recorded (as he always did) all bass, guitars and his own vocals along side Helmet drummer John Stanier. "Being locked in that upstate NY studio all by myself writing, recording and creating was a breath of fresh air". "And not having to deal with other drug addicts like myself (at the time) was refreshing… I used every excuse in the book to not have J-sin (my "parent/vocalist") with me during the musical recording of that record even going so far as talking the label into having his tonsils taken out!!!!!
Primer 55's music has been featured in numerous video games, soundtracks, tv movies / sitcoms and motion picture soundtracks.
in 2006 Primer 55 release a CD/DVD of un released material through Crash Music and in recent times Burns has said that he hopes to put everything PRIMER 55 related to rest.
At the end of the day Burns says in a simple "its all good man".. It's just the way it had to be to make the tunes come out the way they did….. with emotion and my vision behind them. I lived those songs so I always wanted them to come across real and true life.
LONG LIVE MEGADETH AND DAVE MUSTAIN FOR KICKING SO MUCH ASS OVER THE YEARS. HE'S A TRUE LEADER.
